There’s so many distractions and then you have to contend with other cars, buses and pedestrians.

Some people even make it a point of avoiding the drive into the city by taking alternate routes. Fortunately, there are some simple ways you can ensure your trip to and from the city is a safe one.

Take It Slow.

When driving in the city, there really is no rush. It’s always better to slow down and take your foot off the pedal. If you rear end another motorist or a pedestrian walks into on-coming traffic, a small difference in the speed you’re traveling at can have a tremendous effect on the outcome of an accident. It might mean the difference between a small bump or a huge repair bill.

Always Be Aware.

In some cities like Melbourne, there is more than just cars and pedestrians to look out for. You also have to keep in mind the many trams that share our roads. Trams are often stopping to pick up and let off other passengers. You should always be on the look out for pedestrians whenever in the vicinity of a tram as you cannot rely on people to look out for your car.

Melbourne is notorious for accidents like this which can simply be avoided if people keep a keen eye on the road and surroundings.

Hook Turns.

Melbourne is unique in that in some areas of the city, you are required to perform a hook turn to change streets. A hook turn is a maneuver in which you turn right from the left lane. This ensures the smooth flow of traffic in built up areas such as the city. A hook turn is very simple to perform and is not something you should be fearful of. You can ask your driving instructor to teach you the specifics of this turn.

Always Be On The Look Out.

Pedestrians are notorious for not looking where they’re going and this puts you at risk of running them over in an accident. Because it’s the city, the density of pedestrians is much higher than regional areas of Australia. It’s important you avoid all distractions such as mobile phones and loud music while driving in the city regions.

By remaining focused you can ensure the safety of yourself, your passengers and other people using the roads whether by car, bus, tram or on foot.

Be sure to check out our listing of driving schools in Melbourne who can teach you how to drive in such areas in addition to many other important lessons learner drivers must undertake.

From the moment you take your first few driving lessons, you know it’s something you will want to do for the entirety of your life. It’s an exciting time in the life of everyone who gains their learners license. But what happens once you’ve finished your driving lessons and said goodbye to your driving instructor? What’s next? Perhaps a big surprise if you don’t sit down and read our top 10 mistakes new drivers often make!

First on our list is texting while driving! New laws have come into effect that now make this illegal and it’s no wonder they made this law! There was an upsurge in traffic accidents as the use of mobile phones increased during the early the mid 2000′s. Do yourself a favour and pull over to the side of the road if you must send a message or wait until you’re home to read your SMS.

Drink driving is a mistake anyone of any age can make but it’s often one young people make without realising. The term “drink driving” doesn’t necessarily mean you must feel the effects the alcohol is having on your system. There is often alcohol in medications such as cough syrup which is more than enough to put you over the limit. Imagine the shock and horror of losing your licence because you had cough medicine for a sore throat. Check the alcohol content of anything you eat and drink if you plan to drink and are still on your learners or provisional licence.

Do you remember a commercial advertisement on TV that ran often and repeated itself constantly? It went like this. “Wear a seat belt, wear a seat belt, wear a seat belt, wear a seat belt”. Get the point? Great! Wear your seat belt whenever you’re behind the wheel. It doesn’t matter if you’re only going down the shops for a few items. Besides saving your life, it’ll save you money if you are pulled over by the police. 2 things for the price of none! Bonus!

Did you have yourself a HUGE weekend and are feeling the effects of those parties come Monday morning? Fatigue is a big killer on our roads and it’s a huge factor in many car accidents of which many are fatal. A micro sleep can be the end of you within seconds. It’s important to be attentive and fresh when you’re a new driver because you lack much experience that only comes with time.

When someone cuts you off in traffic, it can be REALLY frustrating. In fact, it can be so frustrating that people flip out and go into a state of road rage. What’s sadder is you don’t have to be the one in a bad mood to feel the effects of road rage. The best thing to do when confronted with someone who is experiencing road rage is to lock your car doors, avoid eye contact and don’t say or do anything to further agitate them. Quietly drive away and don’t panic!

Be sure to check back with the driving school directory in the next few days to read our remaining advice for new drivers.

Ultra Motor, a start-up based in the United Kingdom, will barrage a new blazon of electric motor after this year that the aggregation hopes will advice jump-start the apparently advantageous but awful ambiguous bazaar for claimed busline and apple-pie vehicles.

In September, two of India’s largest bike manufacturers will come out with bikes equipped with the company’s AH300 motor, which will run for 35 kilometers (21.75 miles) on a single charge and run at a top speed of 25kph (16 mph). Billionaire Sir Richard Branson auctioned off the first two prototype electric bicycles at a charity event in 2004.

Ultra Motor is additionally alive on added able versions of the motor that could arise in rickshaws (still a above anatomy of busline in India, Vietnam and elsewhere), wheelchairs, motorcycles, baby cars and amalgam vehicles. In tests, the company has cranked the speed of vehicles using its engines up to 56mph.

Ultimately, vehicles powered by the company’s motors could well be targeted at environmentally conscious, bike-happy regions such as the Netherlands.

“We looked at the Segway experience. They tried to change the behavior of the customer,” said Joseph Bowman, senior investment manager at venture firm Russian Technologies and formerly the interim CEO of Ultra Motor. “We’re positioning the company in the niche between a <a href="http://www.ezycommuter.com.au"rel="nofollow">electric bike and a scooter.”

For several years, claimed cartage like the Segway Human Transporter and the Zap PowerBike accept been waylaid by potholes. This time around, however, the circumstances favor the growth of the market.

For one thing, the price is lower, Bowman said. Complete Ultra Motor-powered bikes will sell for about $150 to $175, far less than the Segway, which runs a few thousand dollars, or many electric bikes, which can cost about $1,000. Recharging the motor costs about 6 cents, he added.

The attitude of governments has also become brighter. In 2001, New Delhi swapped agent buses for natural-gas ones, and several added Indian cities are demography accomplish to accept nonpolluting accessible vehicles. Indian cities are also looking at offering subsidies to buyers of electric cars such as the Reva, an e-car developed by an Indo-American joint venture.

In the United States and Europe, motorized two-wheelers that top out at about 16mph are typically classified as bikes under pending and recent regulations, meaning that the company can skirt driver’s license and registration laws. Because the cartage are bikes, the sidewalk-driving altercation that saddled Segway can additionally be avoided. Rising activity prices, abuse and fears of all-around abating are growing in accent as factors, too.

Chinese consumers have already shown that the concept has some legs. In the past four years, about 3 million motorized bikes have hit the road in China, starting from a base of zero, Bowman said.
